Dear Readers

I want to introduce the new product (new for me) that I discovered recently. It is called Dry Sal Inhaler or sometimes Salt Pipe.  Below is some information about this natural product:

The effect of a dry salt inhaler in adults with COPD
“The fascinating results of this study, originally published in Pneumologia 2007 Jul-Sep; 56(3):124-7 concludes: “35 patients were given dry salt inhalers…and were asked to use them up to 30 minutes per day. Spirometry tests and six minutes walk tests were performed initially and after one, two and three months…RESULTS:…we found out there was a statistically significant improvement in the six minutes walk test values… Dry salt inhaler therapy may prove to be a useful adjuvant therapy in COPD as far as effort tolerance and quality of life are concerned.”

Dry salt inhaler

Salt inhaler

The original saltpipe, is made of porcelain and filled with halite salt crystals from the famous Transylvanian Praid Salt Mine. This 100% natural agent has as main component Sodium Chloride, Magnesium, Calcium and minerals.

The air circulates between the two porcelain filters and salt crystals, forming aerosolized micro particles of different sizes as follows:

  • The particles larger than 10 microns have a beneficial effect on the upper respiratory tracts by clearing and disinfecting them.
  • The particles between 5-10 microns penetrate into the trachea and central bronchial area. Particles between 2.5-5 microns penetrate deep into the lungs.
  • Particles between 0.1-2.5 similar in size to the most harmful micro-particles coming from atmospheric and industrial pollution and invisible to the human eye penetrate into every single part of the bronchi, bronchi-oles and alveoli.
Crystal salt many benefits

Crystal salt

The aerosol salt micro-particles humidify and liquidize the secretions of the respiratory tracts, enhance the movement of cilia in the bronchi, help the rapid elimination of residual tar and protect the respiratory tracts from allergens and microbes.

The salt reduce the viscosity of the mucus and restore the normal mucociliary transport that removes mucus, pathogens, and debris from the airways. In some chronic bronchitis patients, coughing becomes more frequent during the first seven days of daily treatment. Large amounts of mobilized mucus that had been blocking the bronchi-oles are expelled, whereupon the patient experiences general improvement.

Bacon and greens

Two new studies say that more doctors and nurses are overweight and it may have an impact on your health.

In the first study, researchers at the University of Maryland found that roughly 55% of nurses are obese. They surveyed about 2,000 female nurses in their research. Part of the reasoning is the long shifts nurses work. Perhaps that’s why employee wellness-programs are becoming more and more popular – especially in the medical profession.

Bad advisor

Is he your doctor?!

“Being healthy is something everybody struggles with, it doesn’t matter your position”, said Becca Jones, Wellness Coordinator at Cone Health.

Another new study found that overweight doctors were less likely to make a diagnosis of obesity or even discuss weight with their patients. The findings are out of the John Hopkins School of Public Health which surveyed 500 primary care physicians. Only 18% of heavy doctors discussed weight loss. 30% of normal-weight doctors talked about weight with their patients. (too few in my opiniopn!)

To that, Jones added, “Would you want to go to a doctor that is overweight and that doctor tell you, you need to lose weight and eat better? It’s harder to take them seriously if they don’t practice what they preach.”

A study revealed that physicians with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or more were less effective at tackling obesity than those of a normal weight. Researchers found they were less likely to diagnose obese patients, felt more embarrassed about offering weight loss advice, and shied away from discussing the topic with clients. (Do you really need a  research to know?)

Medics with a normal BMI however were more successful at treating the condition.

No doctor needed

Lead by example

The numbers in the study, published in the journal Obesity.

30% of doctors with a BMI of 25 or less would recommend diet and exercise programs while only 18% of doctors with a BMI above 25 would recommend it. That’s a substantial difference, but the scarier part of the study for me is that the more overweight doctors are also more likely to prescribe pills for weight loss.

My question to these doctors would be:are these pills working for you?

Even more startling to me: 93% of doctors would only diagnose obesity if the patient’s weight was greater than their own.

So how many doctors are overweight? According to the study, 53% of docs are overweight or obese, only 11% lower than the general population.

So, the overweight doctor won’t talk about fitness or healthy eating and is instead more likely to prescribe a pill. Eesh.

So before you allow a doctor to treat you look at the doctor

If doctor looks healthy and fit-good for him, good for you.

If the doctor is in worse shape than you-RUN!

I firmly believe in obesity training for doctors. I believe a general practitioner should have a medically-trained personal trainer and a registered dietitian. The more studies like this that we do, and the more information that gets out there, the healthier we’ll all be.

So again about choosing an advisor in general

For financial advise look for somebody who is wealthy and self made

For beauty practitioner if the “expert” looks like crap- advise them!

For health advise-invite your doctor to the gym and then decide.

Good for you

Good morning!

NEW DELHI: Attention men! A cup of coffee a day keeps your sex life moving. Brazilian scientists at the University of Sao Paulo revealed that sperm motility was significantly higher in coffee drinkers compared with those who abstain.
Sex is a form of exercise, after all, and like all exercise, it burns calories and can help battle the onslaught of the years. In fact, nursing home experts say they wish oldsters would have more sex. “Good for them! I just don’t want to think about it!”
But seriously don’t abstain form coffee and sex (In moderation)
