Those who suffer from seborrhea dermatitis, better known as dandruff, know the heart break and embarrassment that accompany the flaking, itchy, scaly skin on their scalps and the resulting thick, white flakes that litter their clothing.
Nearly 5% of the world’s population is afflicted with seborrhea. It is an inherited condition that affects the production of skin cells. A scary fact about seborrhea is that it could affect anyone and anytime.
Factors including seasonal changes, illness and infection, stress, hormonal changes, neurological conditions, HIV infection and medication have been known to cause seborrhea.
The problem cannot be cured permanently, but there are some seborrhea treatments that can sooth the yucky symptoms. Shampoo containing zinc, zinc-based spray solutions and medicated-dandruff hair rinse can control most of the flaking.
