Herbs of Kedem

Judean Desert Herbs

The ancient Hebrew medicine was practiced in the Land of Israel at least until the second century B.C., as attested by contemporary historians who described the export of ointments from the Judean Desert region.  Its approach included: the maceration of plants in oil (installations for such a process were recently discovered in Ein-Bokek, near the Dead Sea);

Emphasis on total change of an existing condition, as exemplified by symbol of snake on bar (current symbol of pharmacies), which Moses received: stick converted to snake and back.  Immediately upon receiving this symbol, he
performed an act of healing on himself: converting healthy hand to hand with leprosy, and healing it again.  This total transformation was typically performed with hormones-rich plants.
The Hebrew term Kedem means “antiquity” but also “forward”- and the idea of the name is that ancient remedies will be the basis for the remedies of the future.
Herbs of Kedem’s researcher, Isabelle Haim, a biotechnologist,  has succeeded to combine Dead Sea minerals with antiseptic local plants to create powerful anti-aging creams without any synthetic stabilizers or preservatives.  These creams bear biblical names related to their purpose:
KARMEL– following the name of the place where this rich anti-aging cream is made, and which means in Hebrew “God’s
Vineyard”, referring to the goodness o local crops on the desert’s verge.
MESHI– a rich facial serum for dry skin, meaning Silk in Hebrew, and indeed a silky texture is created by it
TSUKIM– a rich anti-wrinkle balm, applies the astringent features of desert shrubs to create anamazung Botox-like
natural lifting of wrinkled skin.  It means “cliffs” in Hebrew.
TISHREI is a gentle scrub for aging skin, containing rapidly absorbed oils and shredded jojoba seeds, rich in nourishing
proteins.  A weekly scrub with it creates wonderful results.  (In Hebrew, Tishrei is the first month of the year- a symbol
of skin regeneration).
AVIV, “spring” in Hebrew, is a cleanser for the skin, and BOKER, “morning” in  Hebrew, helps tone aging skin right after
the skin becomes loose at night.
The skin & body therapy line includes:
MACCABIM oil, meaning the ancient heroes that saved the Holy Land from Syrian invasion. Treatment for scars, hematomas, bruises, keloids, sprains, pigmentation, burns, eczemas, atopic dermatitis.  7 times more powerful than Aloe-Vera, and a first-aid must for any home.
REGALIM, meaning “legs” and festivals of pilgrimage to Jerusalem, is a balm for feet, nails & cuticles, using the powerful ingredients of MACCABIM.
MAZOR, meaning relief and healing  for chapped feet, athlete foot, jock itch, and together with MEDBAR oil (meaning desert), it treats psoriasis.
TOVA, meaning the good salve, supplements MACCABIM for eczema-affected skin.
SEPHORRIS, stemming from Nail in Hebrew, applied powerful Hyssop species to treat nail fungus.
BARKAN, stemming from Knee in Hebrew, provides relief for arthritis of joints, and helps improve motion of joints and slow down deformation.
Nikuz Organic Herbal Detoxification Tea
Importance of liver and kidneys for detox: “liver” in Hebrew means also “heavy, respectful”; “kidneys” in Hebrew mean also “totality”.
In our family we use many of the Kedem products. We know it is safe for our kids and grandkids.

Pycnogenol® for skin disorders

Dr. Lester Packer of the University of California (Berkeley USA) has discovered the mechanism how Pycnogenol®, the famous French maritime pine bark extract, may act to improve psoriasis and other dermal disorders. Since years people with psoriasis have reported that the occurrence of the itching red blotches was dramatically reduced when they took Pycnogenol®. But until now, it was not clear how Pycnogenol® does it.

Dr. Packer pinpointed the action for Pycnogenol®’s help for skin disorders in the genes of human skin cells. The skin of patients with psoriasis and various other dermatoses have high levels of particular proteins called calgranulins. These proteins are typically associated with inflammatory conditions, prevalent in various skin disorders. According to Dr. Packer, Pycnogenol® would dramatically decrease (nearly 22 times) the activation of genes in skin cells encoding these unfavourable proteins. In consequence, dermal inflammations are counteracted and skin conditions are brought back to normal, argues Dr. Packer.

This result is an agreement with a recent clinical study conducted by Dr. Ronald Watson (University of Arizona, Tucson) and published together with Dr. Packer. In this study it was shown that human volunteers irradiated with UV light were more resistant against getting sunburn when they took Pycnogenol®. Exposure of the skin to UV-light causes production of harmful free radicals, which are quickly removed by Pycnogenol®. But more than that, cells of the skin were prevented from initiating an inflammation by Pycnogenol®, thus preventing further harm to the skin. This is how Pycnogenol® prevents the process known as photo-aging of the skin.

Pycnogenol® is among the most powerful antioxidants, but unlike the multitude of other antioxidants, Pycnogenol® provides immediately visible benefits to the consumer. The current studies of Dr. Packer point at the value of Pycnogenol® for a normal, beautiful and healthy skin.

Allergy is a reaction of your immune system to something that does not bother most other people. People who have allergies often are sensitive to more than one thing. Substances that often cause reactions are

  • Pollen
  • Dust mites
  • Mold spores
  • Pet dander
  • Food
  • Insect stings
  • Medicines

How do you get allergies? Scientists think both genes and the environment have something to do with it. Normally, your immune system fights germs. It is your body’s defense system. In most allergic reactions, however, it is responding to a false alarm. Allergies can cause a runny nose, sneezing, itching, rashes, swelling or asthma. Symptoms vary. Although allergies can make you feel bad, they usually won’t kill you. However, a severe reaction called anaphylaxis is life-threatening.

Here is help. I know a lot of people with severe allergies who use this product. It works!

isotonix.jpgIsotonix® OPC-3® is an isotonic-capable food supplement that is made from a combination of bilberry, grape seed, red wine, pine bark extracts and citrus extract bioflavonoids, all found to be potent antioxidants. Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) are bioflavonoids (complex organic plant compounds) found in fruits, vegetables and certain tree barks that provide exceptional nutritional benefits to the human body. Studies have shown OPCs to be up to 20 times more powerful than vitamin C and 50 times more powerful than vitamin E in neutralizing free radicals. Isotonix OPC-3 contains the only isotonic form of Pycnogenol® in the world. Pycnogenol is a natural plant extract from the bark of the French maritime pine tree, and the most clinically researched and potent bioflavonoid.*

seborrheaThose who suffer from seborrhea dermatitis, better known as dandruff, know the heart break and embarrassment that accompany the flaking, itchy, scaly skin on their scalps and the resulting thick, white flakes that litter their clothing.

Nearly 5% of the world’s population is afflicted with seborrhea. It is an inherited condition that affects the production of skin cells. A scary fact about seborrhea is that it could affect anyone and anytime.

Factors including seasonal changes, illness and infection, stress, hormonal changes, neurological conditions, HIV infection and medication have been known to cause seborrhea.

The problem cannot be cured permanently, but there are some seborrhea treatments that can sooth the yucky symptoms. Shampoo containing zinc, zinc-based spray solutions and medicated-dandruff hair rinse can control most of the flaking.
