Celliant is a technology that modifies visible and infrared light, recycling them into energy that the body can use more effectively. When Celliant is worn as clothing, or placed near the body (like in a bed liner or a blanket), it redirects this recycled energy back to the body increasing blood flow and blood oxygen levels in the tissue.

Natural minerals like titanium dioxide, silicon dioxideand aluminum oxide are ground into a powder finer than one micron. The mineral powder is melted, infused with polyester and transformed into fiber pellets. These pellets are then combined with other adidas Golf technologies, made into yarn and woven to create socks and shirts containing ClimaCool with CoolMax Energy Fabric with Celliant Fibers.

Made specifically for the wellness market, the Ao2 Rx MedCrew with Celliant is manufactured to provide maximum blood oxygen levels and pain relief for the entire upper ankle and foot. The MedCrew also contains many features to enhance wearer comfort such as super thick cushioned sock soles, morpol tops and flat toe seams for less irritation. This sock is ideal for those who work on their feet or have particular trouble with swelling.  Go to the Site »

New rule by FDA about the sunscreens. EWG

These rules — that go into effect June 2012 — fall short. While they bar the industry from continuing to use misleading claims like “waterproof,” “sweatproof” and “sunblock,” they still allow potentially dangerous ingredients like retinyl palmitate and oxybenzone. In another example of almost-but-not-quite-right, the FDA’s new standard for UVA protection is so weak that it will allow nearly every product on the market today to claim both UVA and UVB protection, indicated by the term “broad spectrum” despite the fact that some products do not offer adequate protection.

dangerous chemicals in sunscreens.

Toxic sunblocks.

If you want to protect yourself from the sun, you’ll still need more information than labels will contain to make informed choices. EWG will continue to analyze sunscreens and publish our popular Sunscreen Guide to give you the information you need to make the best decisions. Together, we’ll keep pushing for greater protections for you and your family.
http://ewg.org/release/fda-sunscreen-rules-too-little-and-very-lateWashington, D.C. –The federal Food and Drug Administration’s first sunscreen rules, released today after nearly 33 years of deliberations, fall short.“FDA’s action offers some noticeable improvements for consumers, such limiting misleading claims” said David Andrews, Ph.D, a senior scientist with Environmental Working Group. “However, it is clear that FDA caved to industry and weakened its safety standards. Its earlier draft proposed stronger health protections.”According to Andrews, the agency’s final rule for UVA protection has been substantially watered down from a draft circulated in 2007.“The agency’s weak standard for UVA protection will not allow consumers to differentiate between superior and mediocre products,” Andrews said. “FDA’s rule will allow most products on the U.S. market to use the label ‘broad spectrum sunscreen,’ even though some will not offer enough protection to assure Americans they can stay in the sun without suffering skin damage from invisible UVA radiation. For that reason, about 20 percent of products that meet the new FDA standards could not be sold in Europe, where UVA standards are strict.”

Overuse of sunscreen

Sunscreen crazy.

What not to buy: Avoid sunscreens with these dangerous ingredients…
Oxybenzone. A hormone-disrupting chemical linked with endocrine disruption and cell damage (and low birth weight when used by pregnant women). Oxybenzone can penetrate the skin and enter your bloodstream and is an ingredient in about half of sunscreens.
Retinyl palmitate. A vitamin A compound associated with the accelerated growth of skin lesions and tumors. Manufacturers put vitamin A derivatives in sunscreens because they are popular antioxidants that slow signs of aging, such as wrinkles and rough skin. But FDA data suggest that vitamin A has photo-carcinogenic properties, which means that when exposed to the sun, it may speed up cancer formation. EWG found retinyl palmitate in 41% of sunscreens.
DANGER: NO UVA PROTECTION

Sun made us all

Safe sunscreen

My advise: please use common sense. Don’t be under the sun too long. 10 minutes first time on the beach is fine. Educate yourself. Find out which sunscreens are safe. There are supplements available that will prevent skin damage.

Enjoy the sun!

Knowledge and Wisdom

Daily Wisdom

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

June 17, 2011

(CBS)  More than ever, people are worried about how all the chemicals we’re exposed to are affecting our health: among them a family of chemicals known as phthalates, which are used in everyday plastics. Not plastic bottles of water or soda, but soft and flexible things like shower curtains. They’re also in shampoos and carpeting. Phthalates are so ubiquitous, we all have traces in our bodies.

Dangerous chemicals

Is it safe?

Recently the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, put phthalates on a list of chemicals that “may present a risk” to the environment or human health. That’s because they disrupt hormone activity and some preliminary studies show that they may be causing a slow and steady demasculinizing of men. But if phthalates were on trial, a jury might find the evidence against them conflicting and inconclusive.

And yet last year Congress took action, doing what Europe had already done: it banned certain phthalates in children’s toys. Swan told “60 Minutes” correspondent Lesley Stahl she found that the higher the level of phthalates in the mother’s urine during pregnancy, the greater the problems occurred in young boys.

Asked what she found in babies, Swan said, “We found that the baby boys were in several subtle ways less completely masculine.” Dr. Howard Snyder, a pediatric urologist at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia, says Swan’s findings line up with what he’s seeing in newborn baby boys: an alarming increase in deformed sex organs. Dr. Snyder operated on one-year-old Griffin to correct something called “hypospadias,” a birth defect that causes problems in urination.

Phthalates in beauty products.

High price of beauty

Phthalates in cosmetics and beauty products

The Environmental Working Group conducted a web-based analysis to locate consumer products, particularly cosmetics and beauty aids, containing phthalates. We found both dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and diethyl phthalate (DEP) in numerous products, and butylbenzyl phthalate (BBP) in a smaller number of products. Ultimately we limited our search to DBP, because it is a more potent reproductive and developmental toxin than DEP, and is found in a greater number of products than BBP.

Several points became clear during our product search. First, alternatives to phthalates are readily available to industry, as only a fraction of any given type of cosmetic or beauty product contains phthalates. Our product label searches in electronic and real-world drugstores showed that, for the consumer, the products most easily found that contain DBP are nail enamels and hardeners. In a limited label search of nail products on online drugstore web sites, EWG found DBP in a wide variety of name brand items, including Cover Girl and Maybelline nail enamels

In America, just about anything goes with chemicals until someone shows they are dangerous. In Europe, the REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) program reverses the burden of proof; manufacturers must show that they are safe. Where chemicals are considered hazardous, REACH sets “sunset” dates, deadlines for elimination. But you can’t complain that it is the precautionary principle gone mad when it comes to HBCD; the stuff is known to be unhealthy.

A new study says chemical flame retardants are harming the brain development of children throughout Europe. Of particular concern is the retardant known as deca, used in many plastics in computers and televisions. A recent EWG investigation included the first tests for deca in the household dust of 10 American families, and found levels of the toxic chemical well above those that are causing concern in Europe.” (Environmental Working Group) [29]

So again we start using products and then discover that we get sick from it. Should we call it “Trial and Error” approach? The problem is that “error” means death!

Exercise!

Benefits of exercise.

What fits your busy schedule better, exercising one hour a day or being dead 24 hours a day?

Sometimes a good sweat session is just what the doctor ordered: Exercise has been shown to help ease menstrual cramps, joint pain, headaches, stress and depression, for starters. But if you’re not feeling up to your workout, your body might be trying to tell you that it needs a break. Here are five science-backed reasons to throw in the towel (for today).
Something hurts. There’s the good, normal kind of postworkout pain—the achy soreness you feel for a day or two after you’ve pushed your muscles a little harder than usual or tried something new—and the bad kind that feels like more of an ouch and lingers, explains SELF contributing expert Lisa Callahan, M.D., codirector of the Women’s Sports Medicine Center at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. If a pain persists longer than 72 hours, causes swelling at the site, keeps you up at night or hurts more when you exercise, it’s time to sit on the sidelines and call your doc.
You’re sleep-deprived. Insufficient zzz’s could be as devastating to your well-being as lack of exercise, says James B. Maas, Ph.D., professor of psychology at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. “Your body uses sleep to restore itself both physically and mentally, yet people continue to put it off as if it’s optional,” says Maas. If you’ve been falling short of the seven to eight hours of nightly shut-eye experts recommend and feel downright exhausted when your alarm goes off in the morning, hit snooze and leave your workout for another day. Bonus: The extra rest will give you more energy to punch through that last mile or set of reps when you do hit the gym again.
You feel dizzy, thirsty or clammy. These are signs of warm weather injuries like heatstroke and exhaustion, cases of which are up 133 percent in the past decade, a study in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine warns. Heatstroke can happen even on mild days, so always keep water handy, and if you start to feel the above symptoms, rest, drink up and call it quits for the day. Better safe than sorry!
Your stomach’s been feeling queasy. A little bit of indigestion is no biggie, but if you’re throwing up or experiencing severe diarrhea, you’re already on your way to dehydration and exercise will only make it worse. A 12-hour bug causes most upset stomachs, so you should be fine after a day in bed (or in the bathroom). Just be sure to drink plenty of clear fluids in the meantime.
You have a fever. If the thermometer reads above 100 and you feel exhausted or achy all over, you could have the flu, so trade your gym clothes for your PJ’s and get thee to bed! You’ll likely be too zonked to work up a non-fever-induced sweat anyway. Plus, you’re contagious a full day before you have any symptoms and for the first few days after symptoms strike, and I’m betting your fellow gymgoers don’t want the flu any more than you do. So rest up, drink plenty of fluids and don’t even think about those sneakers until your fever breaks and you’re feeling normal again.

Better than doctors.

Get off your butt!

My advise: stop looking for excuses and get your butt off the couch! Make it a habit to exercise at least 3 time a week. We are creatures of habit-in a few month you will feel that something is missing if you don’t work out.

Gym is much cheaper than a doctor. And good supplements will help.

Organic Farmers v. Monsanto

Organic Farmers Turn the Tables on Monsanto: Lawsuit Asserts Legal Protections Against Genetic Contamination

Organic farmers with Monsanto

Monsanto dream

“Society stands on the precipice of forever being bound to transgenic agriculture and transgenic food. Coexistence between transgenic seed and organic seed is impossible because transgenic seed contaminates and eventually overcomes organic seed. History has already shown this, as soon after transgenic seed for canola was introduced, organic canola became virtually extinct as a result of transgenic seed contamination. Organic corn, soybean, cotton, sugar beet and alfalfa now face the same fate, as transgenic seed has been released for each of those crops, too. And transgenic seed is being developed for many other crops, thus putting the future of all food, and indeed all agriculture, at stake.”

How to have healthy and beautiful skin.

Health from inside

Health and beauty

Step 1 – Cleanse: Using the right cleanser twice a day will help remove dirt and impurities that have accumulated throughout the day, while simultaneously moisturizing and protecting your delicate complexion. This leaves your skin feeling soft, soothed, and refreshed.

TIP: Be sure to remove your makeup and cleanse before you go to sleep each night.  Not cleansing properly can cause you to look older than your years.

Step 2 – Tone: you should be using one that will tone your skin while preserving its natural moisture. Using a gentle, effective toner is a must to preserve the delicate moisture barrier in your skin and prevent long-term dehydration.

TIP: Be sure to choose a toner that delivers the nutrients your complexion needs to protect it from outside damage and preserve its youthful look.

Step 3 – Moisturize: Dry skin is less prepared to withstand free radical damage from the sun and environment.  Moisturizing after cleansing will keep all skin types in balance and reduce the risk of premature aging.

TIP: After cleansing and toning, be sure to moisturize – even if you have oily skin. Oily skin can still become dehydrated and produce even more oil as a result, leaving you worse off than you started! Choose a moisturizer that penetrates deeply into the skin to slow down the aging process, promote healthy cell growth, and improve the quality of skin tissue – ensuring that your complexion remains youthful and wrinkle-free.

We suggest the 100% organic products from Herbs of Kedem.

Start with cleansing your skin with Aviv – evening floral cleanser & make-up remover, then toning it with Boker – morning floral water. Every evening nourish your skin with the wonderful Meshi - regenerating serum. Enjoy adding Tsukim to your daily skin care routine as a skin toning ointment on wrinkles and to protect skin around eyes. Every 10 days use exfoliating and deep-cleansing Tishrei Regenerating Peeling Mask.

Maintain your skin from the inside. Most experts say eating a balanced diet is the best way to get healthy skin. “Everything you eat becomes a part of not only your inner being, but the outer fabric of your body as well. The healthier the foods are that you consume, the better your skin will look,” says Samantha Heller, MS, RD, a clinical nutritionist at NYU Medical Center in New York City.

Food for better skin: Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and plums. The common link between these four foods is their high antioxidant content. In a study recently published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, these four fruits weighed in with the highest “total antioxidant capacity” of any food. The benefits of these foods for healthy skin are plentiful.Fish contains oils that will help nourish your skin.

Healthy Oils. These contain more than essential fatty acids. those labeled cold pressed, expeller processed, or extra virgin are the ones to look for.Flaxseeds are an excellent source of omega-three fatty acids, which promote good skin health.

Vitamin A is essential for healthy skin. This includes plenty of dark orange (carrots, sweet potatoes, winter squash) and dark green (broccoli, spinach, kale) vegetables — all of which are high in vitamin A.Vitamin E helps promote great skin, which is why this includes nuts such as hazelnuts and almonds — which are high in vitamin E — as snacks.

Green Tea. This beverage deserves a category all its own in any article about foods for healthy skin. The skin-health properties in this beneficial drink just can’t be beat. “It has anti-inflammatory properties, and it’s protective to the cell membrane. It may even help prevent or reduce the risk of skin cancer,

Detoxification teas. reinforces the external treatment of skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis, acne, etc.). This tea helps during weight loss period to drain liberated materials, it stimulates metabolism.
How stress affects your skin

The stress response also helps you rise to meet challenges. Stress is what keeps you on your toes during a presentation at work, sharpens your concentration when you’re attempting the game-winning free throw, or drives you to study for an exam when you’d rather be watching TV. But beyond a certain point, stress stops being helpful and starts causing major damage to your health, your mood, your productivity, your relationships, and your quality of life.
Stress Contributes to Eczema, Psoriasis and DermatitisStress Contributes to Cold Sores and AcneStress Causes WrinklesStress Contributes to Skin Cancer

So healthy diet and lifestyle with less stress are the best ways to stay healthy and good looking! And of course good skin care products help.

There are different opinions about the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle.

But at least this movie will contribute to the discussion about our lifestyle and the reason for the obesity epidemic in our country.
Wikipedia:
Obesity in the United States has been increasingly cited as a major health issue in recent decades. While many industrialized countries have experienced similar increases, obesity rates in the United States are among the highest in the world. Estimates have steadily increased, from 19.4% in 1997, 24.5% in 2004[3] to 26.6% in 2007.
The direct medical cost of obesity and indirect economic loss to obesity has been estimated to be as high as $51.64 billion and $99.2 billion in 1995, respectively; this rose to $61 billion and $117 billion in 2000. Researchers for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and RTI International estimate that in 2003, obesity-attributable medical expenditures reached $75 billion.
